Quick answers
Before you get in touch.
Yes. To receive Medicare rebates for your appointment costs you will need an up-to-date referral from either a GP (usually valid for 12 months) or from another specialist (valid for 3 months).
Your referral letter, a list of current medications, private health insurance details, DVA, healthcare card or pension card, and your Workcover or TAC claim number. Please also bring all relevant imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound) and radiologist reports. If you do not have a copy of your imaging, contact us beforehand so we can make sure your images can be accessed electronically.
No, but you will be asked to cover the gap in fees over and above Medicare rebates. Many spinal conditions can be treated without surgery. If you require treatment in hospital then it is advisable to have insurance cover, as costs can add up. A self-funded quote for treatment in a private hospital is also possible.
We welcome Workcover and TAC patients. Please bring your claim number and case manager details where applicable. Appointment fees are settled at the time of consultation, with a receipt issued so you can seek reimbursement from Workcover or TAC.
If you develop loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the saddle area, or severe weakness in both legs, go to your nearest emergency department for an urgent assessment. Dr Edis works at Peninsula Private Hospital and Mulgrave Private Hospital. If you attend either emergency department, let the treating team know you are under his care and notify our rooms so we can coordinate your follow-up.
